2nd and concluding part of The Internet of Things (IoT)

In the first IoT blog post , we  shared some successful IoT business process and their experience.

You will agree that smart and emerging technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence are opening up new vistas for learning. Globally, skill shortage, right or relevant skills, demand for entrepreneurs, depleting talent and the changing demographics are creating the need to build newer arsenals for learning so that the competencies built through online and offline courses are relevant and timely.

Look at the array of device-driven technologies – desktops, laptops, palmtops, tablets, iPads, iPhones, phablets and wearables…the list is growing. In such a device-loaded, information overhang market, how can learners be attracted and engaged? What are the smartest ways of deploying on-demand solutions? How to make learning ubiquitous and enable timely access? Can learners get involved or immersed? How to improve learner experience?

Think of a scenario wherein the learning interface will accommodate different permutations and combinations of interventions and interactivity between man and machine. Already, artificial intelligence is being used to test out interactivity with the help of dashboard skins and avatar creations so that the content is scripted or customized as per industrial and business environment needs.

Therefore, gesticulations – using the hand or palm to make the appropriate learning interventions are enhancing the power and pelf of learning. If immersive and simulation technologies are adding an ‘experiential’ flavor to learning, let’s not forget the fun element too with smart technologies grabbing newer learners into its fold. Man to machine or vice versa or machine to machine are drawing learning and development organizations to pursue the path of innovation by using advanced, radical, and the exploratory researched technologies. Purely going by trends, it is a futuristic yet compelling vision where learning is headed.

In the age of drones, wearables, near-field communication and other emerging technologies, isn’t it prudent to track how progressive or predictive learning can become? Deploying sensor-driven learning technology solutions in industrial or highly-machine intensive or hi-technology environments means there is a growing awareness about the need to understand the power of IoT. The macro-economic conditions, changing lifestyles (read gizmo-flooded market) and the ‘unpredictable’ nature of business challenges are leading those involved in strategic planning and crucial functions of enterprises to understand the IoT operability in an industrial environment.

Fast forward to 84 years from now! Or, what if you note a prediction by data scientists that Boston,US will cease to exist in the year 2100! Alarmed? But, that is the conclusion derived by tracking, parsing, and analyzing data patterns – water levels, expected to surge by 6 ft in the coastal city, are supposedly the cause for this imminent danger.

This scary piece of information is based on data-packed insights given by David Stephenson in an IoT day session with SudhaJamthe. Incidentally, David, the mastermind behind starting a Boston meetup group in 2013 as a one-man army, is today steering a 2100-member strong group, which is immersed and passionate about IoT and its implications in the real world. Predictive data analysis can avert a climatic threat of unimaginable proportions using IoT intelligence.
